Eligibility Requirements... in a Nutshell
Investor Membership
Startup Haven is a mission-driven organization. Anyone who qualifies for membership can join for free and the majority of the value we provide is free. There are also some premium programs and benefits for a small fee. The Startup Haven network is highly vetted. Each member undergoes a thorough application process to ensure they are actively involved in the venture-scale startup ecosystem and committed to supporting high-growth startup founders. All venture capital investors (angels and funds) of all experience levels play an important role in the Startup Haven ecosystem — investors are the "venture" in "venture-scalable". As an investor member, you are not required to invest in any Startup Haven member companies; but if you participate long enough you probably will. That said, to be a good fit for Startup Haven membership, you should be actively seeking your next venture-scale startup investment. You are also expected to be helpful to founders when you can, even if you do not invest. Your portfolio must include at least three cash-based equity investments in venture-scale startups, including one within the past 12 months. Trading services or advice for equity does not count.
What Does It Mean to be an Accredited Investor?
An "accredited investor" refers to an individual or entity that meets specific financial or professional criteria set by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), signifying they have sufficient wealth or knowledge to invest in high-risk, private placements which are not available to the general public.
Special Membership Considerations
• Angel Investors: In addition to accreditation requirements and a minimum of three qualified investments, you must be free of conflicts of interest in which you receive cash in exchange for any products or services of any kind. • Venture Capital Funds: If you are not a Partner in your firm, then a Partner in your firm must join Startup Haven first before you can apply for membership. • Incubators & Accelerators: Only admitted in rare cases where the program meets our cash/equity investment requirements and when the program aligns with Startup Haven's policies against accepting payment from startups in exchange for services or advice. • Service Providers: Startups need a lot of help, including great lawyers, bankers, accountants, real estate brokers, marketing agencies and many more. Some such folk also invest in startups from time to time. However, service providers are never allowed to join Startup Haven.
